Cargo type
Steel Transport South Africa
Steel is dense, heavy and awkward: mass limits are usually reached long before the deck is full, and securing is a serious engineering task rather than a formality. Steel freight moves mainly on flatdecks because the load is craned or lifted on from above.
What we need to quote
- Product form — sections, plate, coil, reinforcing or tubing
- Total mass and individual piece mass
- Length and dimensions of the longest item
- Lifting equipment at collection and delivery
- Whether sheeting is required
Practical considerations
- Mass, not volume, sets the limit — accurate tonnage matters.
- Long sections may trigger permit or escort requirements.
- Coil and plate need specific securing arrangements and dunnage.
- Both ends usually need lifting equipment.
