Cargo type
Fruit Transport South Africa
Fruit is time-critical and temperature-critical. Citrus, subtropical and deciduous fruit all have their own handling requirements, and the cold chain must be unbroken from packhouse to delivery. Vehicle allocation for fruit work is as much about packhouse access and loading speed as it is about refrigeration.
What we need to quote
- Fruit type and required temperature set point
- Pallet count and packaging format
- Packhouse collection point and access
- Delivery destination — market, DC or port
- Whether temperature records are required
Practical considerations
- Fruit must be pre-cooled before loading; a reefer holds temperature, it does not chill.
- Airflow must not be blocked by over-stacked pallets.
- Export consignments must align with stack dates and inspection requirements.
- Harvest peaks tighten capacity — book earlier in season.
