Superlink Tautliner Transport Johannesburg & South Africa
A superlink tautliner is the workhorse of South African long-distance road freight: a tractor pulling two curtain-side trailers coupled together. The curtains open along the full length of both trailers, so a load can be worked from the side with a forklift instead of only from the rear. That makes it the default choice for palletised freight, baled commodities, packaged goods and mixed FMCG consignments moving between Gauteng and the coast.

Loading requirements
- Forklift side loading is usually fastest and needs a hard, level surface alongside the trailer.
- Curtains must be opened and re-tensioned by the loading team or driver — allow time for this.
- Load must be distributed across both trailers to stay within axle-mass limits.
What to consider
- Axle-mass legislation, not floor space, usually determines how much can legally travel.
- Superlinks need generous turning and reversing space — confirm site access before booking.
- Curtain-sides are weather protection, not a security enclosure; high-value cargo may need additional measures.
Questions
Superlink Tautliner transport FAQs
What is the difference between a superlink and a tri-axle tautliner?
A superlink is two coupled trailers behind one tractor, giving substantially more deck length and payload than a single tri-axle trailer. A tri-axle is a single trailer and is easier to place at sites with tight access.
Can a superlink tautliner collect from a site with limited space?
Not always. Superlinks need room to manoeuvre and reverse. Where access is restricted we will usually recommend a tri-axle or rigid vehicle instead.
