Lucerne Bale Transport South Africa

Lucerne moves in volume from the irrigation districts of the Northern Cape, Free State and Karoo to livestock, dairy and equine buyers nationwide — and increasingly to Durban Port for export. Bales are bulky rather than dense, so the load usually fills the deck before it reaches mass limits, and the vehicle must physically reach the field or shed where the bales are stacked.

What we need to quote

  • Bale type and dimensions (large square, round or small bales)
  • Number of bales and approximate mass per bale
  • Collection farm or depot and delivery destination
  • Whether the site has a loader or telehandler
  • Once-off or recurring loads, and loads per week or month

Practical considerations

  • Bales must be strapped and, on open decks, usually netted or sheeted.
  • Farm access, gate width and ground conditions determine whether a superlink can get in.
  • Moisture content affects both mass and the condition of the load on arrival.
  • Export consignments to Durban Port need to align with stack deadlines.
