Freight guide

What Information Is Needed for a Transport Quote?

Vague enquiries get vague rates. Here is exactly what an operator needs in order to give you a firm number quickly.

Route

Collection suburb or town and province, and the same for delivery. Street-level addresses help further, because access and traffic differ enormously between industrial areas within the same city.

Cargo

What it is, the gross mass, the pallet or bale count, and the dimensions of anything that is not standard. If it is temperature-controlled, the required set point.

Vehicle

If you know the vehicle type you want, say so. If you do not, describe the cargo and ask for a recommendation — that is faster than guessing.

Timing and frequency

The collection date, whether there is a fixed delivery window or booking slot, and whether this is once-off or recurring. Recurring volume is usually priced better.

Insurance

The value of the cargo, so goods in transit cover can be confirmed against it. Understating value to save money leaves you exposed on a claim.
